Week of February 9:  Chilly water sends the fish packing

A boat is navigating the shimmering ocean waters near a pier, with a person fishing on the pier and clouds overhead.
No Angler of the Week contributions this week. However, here's a late morning photo of the south jetty as viewed from the north jetty.  When the bite picks up once again, please send in a picture and the details of your fishing trip to the inlet by using the Contact Form on our website.  Pictures work best vertically and if you center the person with their catch, leaving room on the sides. And don't forget to download our app so you can check conditions on our webcam.

Today’s (February 9) forecast calls for sunny skies, a high of 69 degrees, ENE winds of 8 mph and four to five-foot seas.

Our fishing guide, “Snookman” Wayne Landry, serves up a brief and chilly fishing report:

“Hello, Sebastian Inlet friends and anglers; here we go with this week's report for the happenings —or not — at the inlet. It's quick and short, as nothing has changed at the inlet from last week’s report except that the water has gotten dirtier, rougher, and remained very cold, 59 degrees as of this writing! That's much too cold for the comfort level our seasonal fish. We need 65 degrees or above for any action to happen. Plus, the NNW winds blew up the surf and sand, impacting water clarity. The only thing I saw anywhere were a few black drum and sheepshead on shrimp and clams on the jetties, along with small bluefish on silver spoons and gotcha lures and any bait fished.

No snook to be found — the water is WAY too cold for them! The surf was blown out on both sides and dirty. Catfish city and stingrays. That's pretty much it at the inlet — plenty of folks out, just no fish. This is probably the worst report I have shared, but I call it like I see it. Expect more seasonal weather this week; we just need easterly or southeasterly winds to blow some warm water in to reignite the action. Have a great week, stay safe, stay well! Cheers.” — Snookman.
