Week of December 1: Wicked, wind-whipped weekend washes out the action

Today’s (December 1) forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, a high of 78 degrees, NE winds of 10 mph, and three to four-foot seas.
‘Good morning, all my Sebastian Inlet fanatics. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! It was a bit breezy to say the least. While I was checking the camera and weather conditions at the jetty on Saturday, I saw a couple times where the winds were sustained at 22 mph, with gusts 39-40 mph, and seas to six feet. Not an ideal situation! There were some hardcore anglers out there dressed in what I call ‘full battle gear,’: raincoats, boots, rain pants, hoodies, slickers etc. fishing, but no thanks. The waves were busting up through the grates and over the side walls on the north face — not a comfortable situation. The south jetty was a similar scene, with waves busting up over the rocks and washing over the entire jetty from front to back — dangerous! Nobody was out there.
By Sunday. the weather had calmed down quite a bit, but was still rough, nonetheless. The good thing is that the water DID NOT get very dirty like the last go-round because the winds were more ENE, instead of NNE, which allowed the water to stay cleaner and not muddy up. So, it shouldn't take too long for the fishing to pick back up. It needs to calm down a bit more. The water temperature is still good at 70 to 72 degrees, which is good for our winter fishing species.
With all that said, we only had one day of fishing. Sunday was decent enough to get out on the jetties and the park to see what, if anything was being caught, and it was pretty slim pickings everywhere! The only place I saw fish caught was out on the north jetty where they were catching small jack crevalle, bluefish and blue runners, all on cut dead baits. I did see a couple of nice sheepshead caught by one angler on cut shrimp, and two decent black drum, also on cut shrimp. All of these fish were caught at the tip of the jetty, on the outgoing tide. And for the snook and redfish, zip, zero, no reports on any being caught except for some during nighttime tides on jigs. I didn't stay for the incoming tide as it was going to get pretty wet with the waves still being three to four feet. The rest of the fishing areas in the park, t-dock, beaches fishless, and rocks along both sides were too rough to fish with the swell coming out of the ENE.
That's about all I have for this week. As I pointed out, the weather degraded the water quality, but this week is supposed to be pretty nice with the winds turning more westerly which will calm it down more, and allow it to clean back up. Hopefully, this will return conditions to where they was a week ago. We shall see. I hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe week. Happy December!” — Snookman.
