Week of April 13: Lousy conditions beget lousy fishing

Angler of the Week: Ervin Campbell sent us a photo of his second big snook in two weeks. He caught this 32-inch specimen using live shrimp.  Please send in your photos. We'll use them here or in the photo carousel on this page.  Use the Contact Form on our website.  Pictures work best vertically and if you center the person with their catch, leaving room on the sides.  Today’s (April 13) forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, a high of 78 degrees, East winds of 14 mph and three to five-foot seas.

Our fishing guide, "Snookman" Wayne Landry, is a man of few words this week, and with good reason:

“Good morning, Sebastian Inlet fans. I hope everyone enjoyed the nice weekend, despite the windy conditions. This is going to be another brief report due to last week's nasty and brutal conditions at the inlet: big winds, huge surf, and lots of rain, which made it very unfishable all week. The remnants of this weather continued through the weekend, leaving  dirty water, lots of seaweed and no fish! I was at the inlet Friday through Sunday and it was very quiet fish-wise. About the only fish I saw caught were small sheepshead.  They were caught west of the bridge, on the south side along the rocky shoreline. Dead shrimp was the bait. The mojarra located there at the beginning of the week were NOT there, so the snookies were gone as well — plus, the dirty, weedy water didn't help matters.

Also — just a heads up for you south jetty anglers — the south jetty is CLOSED until further notice. Safety first, stay off it please!

That's all I have, folks. I'm hoping for the return of normal weather, so that the fishing will pick up. Until then, have a great and safe week.” — Snookman.
