Sebastian Inlet sea turtle nest numbers as of October 8, 2024

Here's the sea turtle nesting update at Sebastian Inlet. The counts include beaches to the north and south of the inlet (Zones A-F), and as of today, survey teams have identified:

Loggerhead - 892

Greens - 107

Leatherback - 9

Kemps – 1

Total – 1,008

The Sebastian Inlet District works in tandem with park officials and employs biologists to conduct daily surveys on the beaches just South of Sebastian Inlet – along a one-half mile stretch starting near McLarty Treasure Museum and continuing South to Ambersand beach access in Indian River County. District monitoring efforts began on March 1 and will continue through the end of the nesting season in October.
