Celebration kicks off north jetty reopening

It was the perfect capstone to a successful project.

Scores of people streamed into Sebastian Inlet on June 30 to celebrate the reopening of  the north jetty following an eight-month repair and improvement project.

Following a brief speech by Sebastian Inlet District Chairman David Barney, attendees snapped up free water, hardcover Sebastian Inlet history books, t-shirts, key rings and other freebies. Soon, the jetty was packed with anglers and sightseers.

The project contractor, Shoreline Foundation, Inc. (SFI),  completed  structure improvements along a  210-foot section of the north jetty. The North Jetty project began in November. The completed work included new revetment structure, seawalls and a concrete sidewalk deck along portions of the jetty damaged by storms.

The webcam will be reinstalled to a safer location on the north side of the jetty.

A big shout out to our partners at Sebastian Inlet State Park, Shoreline Foundation, and Environmental Science Associates (ESA).
