Inlet channel dredging complete as work continues in "sand trap"

The image shows a beach scene with construction equipment, sandy terrain, a water body, and cloudy skies.
A panoramic view of sand being pumped to the beach south of the inlet.

Boaters, please be aware of dredge pipes and related equipment within the Sebastian Inlet channel.

Our contractor, ATL Diversified, Inc., has finished dredging sand from the Sebastian Inlet channel and is now pumping sand from the designated "sand trap" to the beaches south of the inlet.  The sand trap is a 42-acre underwater depression adjacent to the inlet channel. It is designed to capture sand flowing into the channel from the Atlantic Ocean.

Boaters, please observe markers and signs indicating submerged pipe in the inlet channel.  Dredge pipes are also located on the south side of the state park, where ATL is  pumping beach-compatible sand to the south beaches (from the Sebastian Inlet State Park day use beach access south to McClarty Treasure Museum).

Park visitors, please be mindful of the pipes and booster pumps located on the south side of the state park. Please avoid all heavy equipment and active construction areas for your safety.

This work is a continuation of dredging that began in spring 2025 but was paused to ensure the safety of turtles and their nests during sea turtle nesting season.

We will keep you updated as the project progresses. For more information, contact the District’s Public Information Associate, Ed Garland at egarland@sitd.us or call the District’s Indialantic office at 321 724-5175.
