December 2025: Inlet channel dredging underway

A panoramic view of a sand mining site with large piles of sand and a blue sky. A machine is seen working in the background.
Accumulated sand at the District's Dredged Materials Management Area (DMMA), pumped to this location from the inlet channel and adjacent "sand trap" beneath the water's surface.

Dredging is underway in Sebastian Inlet. Boaters: please be aware of dredge pipes and related equipment.

Our contractor, ATL Diversified, Inc., is hydraulically dredging beach-compatible sand from a designated sand trap and adjacent inlet navigation channel within Sebastian Inlet.

ATL is pumping non-compatible beach material through pipes to a dredged material storage facility on the north side of the inlet. Boaters, please observe markers and signs indicating submerged pipe stretching across the inlet channel.  When the sand storage facility is full, work will shift to (anticipated February 2026) pumping beach-compatible sand to the south side of the inlet from the Sebastian Inlet State Park day use beach access south to McClarty Treasure Museum

This work is a continuation of dredging that began in spring 2025 but was paused to ensure the safety of turtles and their nests during sea turtle nesting season.

We will share more information as the project progresses. For more information, contact the District’s Public Information Associate, Ed Garland at egarland@sitd.us or call the District’s Indialantic office at 321 724-5175.
