Week of July 8: Mangrove Snapper have moved in with Spanish Mackerel and Blue Runners too

Tommy at Sebastian Inlet Bait & Tackle tells us the fish have been running and are hanging around the inlet!  The Mangrove Snappers have moved in and they are hitting shrimp or minnows.  Anglers are seeing lots of Spanish Mackerel and Blue Runners too.  Try spoons, jigs, shrimp and minnows to bring them in.  Some big Reds have been seen too, mainly at night, and they are hitting on flare jig bucktails and shallow diving plugs throughout the inlet including the jetties.  The Palometa have been running.  Palometa is a type of Pompano and Tommy has caught a lot from the beach.  Not a great fish to eat, but a great sport fish.  There have been plenty of Snook, but remember Snook season has closed so catch and release only.  Appropriate catch and release techniques ensure healthy fish populations for the future.  See NOAA Fisheries catch and release guidelines here.

A shout out to our angler of the week this week, Lucas Wyatt.  He caught this large Snook on a knocker rig and live mojarra.  Thanks for sending in your pic and details, Lucas!  If you want to be featured as an angler of the week, submit your photos and details through the Contact Form on this website.

Happy angling and be safe out there!
