5/11/18 Friday: Spanish Mackerel, Snook and Snapper

It’s a gorgeous morning at the Sebastian Inlet.  Winds are barely moving which means the no see ‘ums are out in force.  Be sure to take insect repellent if you head to the inlet today.  Winds are forecasted to increase this afternoon which should help keep the bugs away!  Winds will continue to increase this weekend and we have rain and possible thunderstorms on Sunday.

Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reports that there is a Spanish Mackerel bite off the north jetty this morning and Snook are out there as well.  Mangrove Snapper were biting in the Indian River Lagoon yesterday.  There are huge rafts of seaweed in the water right now, hampering efforts to fish from the beaches.

Our photo today is one from the archives and features Earl Truman of Vero Beach.  Earl landed this huge Permit on this day in 2011.  What a catch!

Take your Mom fishing this weekend!
